PVC & Composite Cards
PVC cards are the standard card type used in most ID card programs. This means you’ll have the widest variety of choices and price points when selecting your cards. Options include standard CR80 30 mil cards, earth-friendly cards, and even cards with signature panels.
Composite cards are made from 40% PVC and 60% polyester, making them more durable than straight PVC cards. This makes them ideal for laminating and reverse transfer printers, which use higher temperatures during printing.
Data Cards
If you need to encode your cards to store data, your options will depend on the data you want to store and how you want to read it.
Magnetic stripe cards have long been used for student ID cards, library cards, retail rewards cards, gym membership cards, and much more. These cards hold small amounts of data, and can either be temporary (LoCo cards) or long-term (HiCo cards) cards.
If you want more flexibility in your cards, proximity cards are quickly growing in popularity (and even have options for magnetic stripe encoding as well). Used to unlock doors, prox cards can be printed on to also act as photo ID for employees and students.
For the most flexibility and security, consider smart cards.
